1952: Italy is recovering from the ravages of World War II. Carlo Locatelli, a natural entrepreneur and a lightswitch salesman, has a hunch: Post-war Italians want shampoo. Lots of shampoo. A switch goes off in his mind.
We always have.
We always will.
Our history
1952: Italy is recovering from the ravages of World War II. Carlo Locatelli, a natural entrepreneur and a lightswitch salesman, has a hunch: Post-war Italians want shampoo. Lots of shampoo. A switch goes off in his mind.
In a twice-bombarded building in Santa Maria La Porta in Milan, Carlo’s hunch comes to life in the form of an ultra creamy, ultra concentrated shampoo. He calls it “Lauron.” It’s mixed in outdoor tanks but Lauron becomes a household name.
1972: Renato (Carlos’ and his son), Alessandro, launch a generational family business. Lisap begins with 8 people routinely filling two post-war, outdoor tanks to satisfy Italians’ love for a creamy, concentrated shampoo.
Lisap introduces its color lines, shifting the focus of the company to beautiful color for all.
With an eye on a healthy future and planet, Lisap becomes a trailblazer in the hair color space by launching its first ammonia free line, Absolute 3.
With a focus on innovation and catering to the varied needs of stylists, Lisap introduces a kaleidoscope of color, care and finish products, fashioning a comprehensive, future-forward brand.
Appealing to colorists’ desire for healthier hair color, Lisap introduces LisaPlex ammonia, paraben and sulfate free “Filter Colors” easy-to-use, commitment free hues inspired by social media filters.
Predicting the perseverance of the pastel hair trend, LisaPlex introduces nine “Pastel” colors, semi-permanent and ammonia-free, they easily deliver fashion hues over pre-lightened hair.
Lisap brings its comprehensive, color, care and finish lines to US stylists and salons, uniting an Italian legacy with some of the most innovative and creative stylists in the world. Connected by color and forging the new future of beautiful hair.
A family business is a family of brands. Still headquartered in Milan, Lisap employs over 100 hair enthusiasts in Milan focused on, researching, formulating and quenching a global love for color, care and finishing treatments.
With a mature network of subsidiaries and distributors in more than 110 countries worldwide, Lisap’s headquarters and manufacturing plant remain firmly based in Italy with local offices in each country.
Seventy years ago, Carlo’s instinct filled those tanks and created a company fueled by passionate, unapologetic intuition. Beautiful hair is still who we are and what we do. It’s more than a family tradition. It’s a family foundation.
No one in the Locatelli family came from the salon
industry. Now, we are the salon industry.
